Board Chairman / Deacon

Duties & Responsibilities

The Board Chairman provides leadership to the General Board and presides over all regular business meetings and special called meetings of the church. The Chairman should be an Elder or Deacon with experience and knowledge in church management, administration, leadership, and the established practices of Cedar Grove Christian Church.

The Chairman works cooperatively with the Pastor, Elders, Deacons, officers, ministry leaders, and members to help ensure that the business and ministry affairs of the church are conducted faithfully, respectfully, and in an orderly manner.

Board Chairman Responsibilities

  • Preside over regular and special meetings of the General Board.

  • Work with the Pastor and appropriate church leadership in preparing for church business and Board meetings.

  • Help ensure meetings are conducted in an organized, respectful, and orderly manner.

  • Encourage participation, cooperation, accountability, and unity among Board members.

  • Help ensure matters presented before the Board receive appropriate consideration and follow-up.

  • Support the implementation of decisions approved by the Board and congregation according to the church's established policies and procedures.

  • Work cooperatively with church officers and ministry leaders concerning administrative and operational matters.

  • Help promote responsible stewardship and the overall growth and welfare of the church.

  • Provide leadership grounded in Christian principles, integrity, fairness, and service.

  • Perform other leadership responsibilities assigned in accordance with the church's governing documents and established practices.

Deacon Responsibilities

As a Deacon, he serves alongside the Elders and other church leadership in promoting the spiritual growth, ministry, and welfare of the congregation.

His responsibilities include:

  • Cooperating with the Elders in promoting the growth and welfare of the church.

  • Greeting and welcoming members, visitors, and worshippers.

  • Assisting in maintaining an orderly and welcoming worship environment.

  • Preparing and distributing the Lord's Supper (Communion).

  • Assisting with and blessing the offering as appropriate during worship.

  • Participating in financial canvasses and stewardship efforts as requested.

  • Ministering to individuals and families during times of sickness, bereavement, hardship, and other needs.

  • Assisting and preparing candidates for baptism.

  • Supporting the Pastor and church leadership in worship services and special programs.

  • Serving the congregation with compassion, dignity, confidentiality, and Christian love.

  • Performing other duties that may be assigned in support of the ministry and mission of Cedar Grove Christian Church.

Purpose

The Board Chairman / Deacon is called to provide both administrative leadership and Christian service. Through faithful leadership, stewardship, compassion, and cooperation with the Pastor and church leadership, he helps promote the spiritual growth, unity, good order, and overall welfare of Cedar Grove Christian Church.
