Pastor of Evangelism, Elder, Vice Chairman & Adult Sunday School Teacher

Pastor Sherry Moton

Pastor Sherry Moton serves the Cedar Grove Christian Church congregation as Pastor of Evangelism, Elder, Vice Chairman, and Adult Sunday School Teacher.

She is a graduate of Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, where she earned her Master of Divinity degree. She received her call to ministry in 1986, with a calling to minister to the poor, the sick and shut-in, prisoners, and women in trouble.

Pastor of Evangelism

As Pastor of Evangelism, she helps lead the church in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and reaching individuals both within and beyond the walls of the church.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Encourage and promote evangelism throughout the congregation.

  • Help develop outreach opportunities that introduce individuals and families to Christ and the church.

  • Minister to the poor, sick and shut-in, incarcerated individuals, women in need, and others experiencing difficult circumstances.

  • Encourage members to participate in evangelism and community outreach.

  • Provide prayer, spiritual encouragement, and biblical guidance to those in need.

  • Help welcome and connect visitors and prospective members with the church.

  • Work with the Pastor and other ministries to support the spiritual growth and mission of Cedar Grove Christian Church.

Elder

As an Elder, she provides spiritual leadership, guidance, and care to the congregation while working cooperatively with the Pastor and other church leaders.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in providing spiritual leadership and guidance to the congregation.

  • Support the Pastor in advancing the spiritual growth and welfare of the church.

  • Pray with and minister to members during times of sickness, bereavement, crisis, and other needs.

  • Assist with worship, Communion, baptism, and other sacred responsibilities as appropriate.

  • Encourage Christian discipleship, fellowship, unity, and spiritual maturity.

  • Provide biblical counsel and encouragement when called upon.

  • Serve as an example of Christian leadership, integrity, compassion, and faithful service.

Vice Chairman

As Vice Chairman of the Board, she assists and supports the Board Chairman in the leadership and orderly operation of the General Board.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Board Chairman with Board responsibilities and church business.

  • Preside over Board meetings when the Chairman is absent or unable to serve.

  • Work cooperatively with the Pastor, Chairman, Elders, Deacons, officers, and ministry leaders.

  • Help ensure matters presented to the Board are handled respectfully and in an orderly manner.

  • Assist with following up on decisions and responsibilities assigned by the Board.

  • Promote unity, accountability, cooperation, and effective communication among church leadership.

  • Perform other Board leadership responsibilities as assigned or required by the church’s governing practices.

Adult Sunday School Teacher

As an Adult Sunday School Teacher, she helps members develop a deeper understanding of Scripture and encourages them to apply biblical principles to their daily lives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and teach biblically based Sunday School lessons for adults.

  • Encourage meaningful discussion, questions, and participation.

  • Help students develop a deeper understanding of Scripture and Christian discipleship.

  • Encourage members to apply God’s Word to everyday life, relationships, service, and spiritual growth.

  • Provide a welcoming learning environment where adults can grow together in faith.

  • Encourage prayer, Bible study, fellowship, and continued spiritual development.

  • Teach with preparation, compassion, integrity, and respect for God’s Word.

Purpose

Through her service as Pastor of Evangelism, Elder, Vice Chairman, and Adult Sunday School Teacher, Pastor Sherry Moton helps strengthen Cedar Grove Christian Church through evangelism, spiritual leadership, Christian education, outreach, compassion, and service.

Her ministry reflects a commitment to reaching people wherever they may be and helping others discover their purpose and grow in their relationship with Christ.
